Can I touch my ball on the green?

It's OK to touch the green on the other side of the hole from where your ball is resting, provided it's not done to indicate a line for putting.

When can you mark your ball on the green?

You can mark, lift and clean a ball on the green, but it's a violation to do so when another ball is in motion, as your ball might influence the outcome of that stroke. You can also mark and clean your ball in some instances when it's off the green: cleaning it, for example, just to the point where you can identify it.

Can you touch the putting green with your hand?

Rule 16-1a does not allow a player to touch the line of his putt, but permits certain exceptions. He can do so in removing loose impediments, even with the palm of his hand or with a cap or towel. Accidentally walking on it and not improving the line is allowed.

Generally, line up your marker with a fixed object in the distance such as a tree or sign at a right angle to the player's line of putt. Then place the head of your putter down on the ground to the side of your marker and move the coin over one or, if needed, two putter head lengths to the side.

Can I clean my golf ball on the fairway?

A golfer cannot clean their ball in any other situation, including when the ball is in the fairway, when the ball is in the rough, when the ball is in a bunker.

What is the penalty for picking up your ball on the green?

If you clean a lifted ball when not allowed, you get one penalty stroke.

Can you have two putters in your golf bag?

According to the USGA and R&A rules, you can have two putters in your bag when playing a professional round of golf provided the total number doesn't exceed 14. The same thing applies when you're playing a normal golf round.

Can you pick and place in the rough?

Golfers can lift, clean and place a ball only when it originally lies in a closely mown area. "Closely mown area" means any part of the golf course that is mowed to fairway height. Therefore, it does not include any rough or putting greens, but may include aprons around the greens or paths mowed through rough.

Can you chip on green?

It is legal within the rules of golf to chip on the green. The USGA says that you can use any club in your bag from any location on the golf course. This means that if you want to hit your chip from one side of the green to the other, you can do so.

Can you play a ball from out of bounds?

Out of bounds is the largest penalty in the rule book.

Hitting the ball out of bounds will typically cost you both a stroke and distance. Effectively, it is a two-stroke penalty.

Can you use your foot to mark your golf ball?

However, you can use what you wish, provided the position of the ball is marked. It may include a coin, a poker chip, a lucky charm, a tee or even a twig or a flower (not recommended since the wind may blow it away). You could even use the toe of your club or the toe of your foot (once again, not recommended).

When it comes to reading a putt's break, members of a four-ball team may stand nearly anywhere on the green to watch a partner putt, with one exception: They're not allowed to stand on or close to an extension of the player's line of putt behind the ball (Rule 14-2b).

Can caddies remove ball from hole?

The player's caddie is allowed to mark and lift the player's ball on the putting green any time the player is allowed to do so, without needing authorization. The caddie continues to be allowed to replace the player's ball only if the caddie was the one who had lifted or moved the ball.

Can you move wood chips in golf?

Under the Rules of Golf, wood chips are considered loose impediments, which means you can move individual wood chips (see Rule 15.1). However, you don't get a free drop unless the competition committee or the course decides to treat the wood-chipped area as an immovable obstruction (see Rule 16.1).
